About WakeWx

Our Mission

WakeWx exists to provide Wake County residents with the most accurate, localized, and understandable weather forecasts possible. We believe that weather information should be accessible, reliable, and tailored to how people actually live their lives.

Unlike generic weather apps that give you the same forecast for a 50-mile radius, we focus specifically on Wake County. We understand that weather can vary significantly from Raleigh to Cary to Apex, and we account for those microclimates in our forecasts.

Our Forecasting Method

Our approach combines the best of technology and human expertise:

Multiple Model Analysis

We analyze data from multiple weather models (GFS, ECMWF, NAM, HRRR) and look for consensus. When models disagree, we use our expertise to determine which solution is most likely.

Real-Time Observations

We continuously monitor local weather stations, radar, satellite imagery, and surface observations to verify and adjust our forecasts in real-time.

Manual Forecasting

Every forecast is reviewed and refined by an experienced meteorologist. We don't just copy model outputs—we interpret them, identify potential issues, and apply local knowledge.

Local Expertise

Years of forecasting for Wake County means we understand local patterns, topography effects, and how weather systems typically behave in our area. This local knowledge is invaluable.
